Tropical Deciduous forests (also called Monsoon forests) cover the largest area in India (about 65% of forest cover). They shed leaves during dry season to conserve water. Found in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and parts of Maharashtra.

The Caspian Sea is the largest lake in the world by surface area (371,000 sq km), though it is called a 'sea' due to its size and salinity. It is landlocked, bordered by Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Azerbaijan. Lake Baikal is the deepest and holds the most freshwater.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), also known as Nhava Sheva, located near Mumbai, is India's busiest container port, handling about 50% of the country's container traffic. It was commissioned in 1989 to decongest Mumbai Port and boost maritime trade.

The Northeast Monsoon (October-December) brings rainfall to Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and parts of Karnataka. Unlike most of India which receives rain from Southwest Monsoon, Tamil Nadu gets about 50% of its annual rainfall from the Northeast Monsoon.

Wular Lake, located in Jammu and Kashmir, is the largest freshwater lake in India (area varies 30-260 sq km seasonally). It is fed by the Jhelum River and is an important habitat for migratory birds. Chilika Lake is the largest brackish water lagoon in India.

The Volga River, at 3,531 km, is the longest river in Europe. It flows through central Russia and drains into the Caspian Sea. The Volga is culturally significant to Russia and is often called the 'mother river' of Russia. It is entirely within Russian territory.

The Thar Desert, also known as the Great Indian Desert, extends into both India and Pakistan. About 85% of the desert lies in India (primarily Rajasthan), while the remaining 15% is in Pakistan's Punjab and Sindh provinces. It covers about 200,000 sq km.

Orographic rainfall occurs when moist air is forced to rise over a mountain barrier. As the air rises, it cools and condenses, causing precipitation on the windward side. The leeward side experiences a rain shadow effect with less rainfall. Common in Western Ghats and Himalayas.

The Yellow Revolution refers to the self-sufficiency in oilseed production achieved in India during the late 1980s and 1990s. It focused on increasing production of mustard, groundnut, sesame, and soybean. The Technology Mission on Oilseeds (1986) was a key initiative.

The Palk Strait separates the Indian state of Tamil Nadu from Sri Lanka's Northern Province. It connects the Bay of Bengal with the Gulf of Mannar. The strait is named after Robert Palk, a former Governor of Madras Presidency. Adam's Bridge (Rama Setu) lies in this strait.

India does not share a land border with Afghanistan. India shares land borders with Pakistan, China, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. Afghanistan is separated from India by Pakistan (via the Wakhan Corridor). However, India and Afghanistan share strategic and cultural ties.
